Five Categories of Lumix Digital Cameras

With five different types of cameras, including High Zoom, Creative, Stylish, Tough, and Advanced Stylish, the Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera line-up
offers something for every level of photographers. The newest and coolest addition is the Tough category where Panasonic is now chasing – because they lead the category – the Olympus digital camera that can take rain, heat, cold, dropping and you name it and keep taking really average to lousy photos. I know, because I have one of the Olympus cameras and cannot wait to get the Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera version of the tough camera. Each of these
cameras features the basics of the Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera line: Mega Optical Image Stabilization or Mega O.I.S., auto exposure settings, a
high-end LCD screen, and good optics for the size of the lens.

Having a great zoom means getting that photo that otherwise we might miss. Normal cameras can be expected to have a 3x zoom. Panasonic Lumix cameras burst on the scene with up to 18x zooms. This gives us the ability to use one camera for both wide angle shots and close up shots. This works brilliantly for every type of the photographers tasks including the sport shots, closeup modeling, and for scenic shots. DMC-FZ35, DMC-TZ6, DMC-ZS3, and DMC-TZ7, DMC-ZR1 plus the DMC-ZS1 include powerful zooms. There is another important feature of the Panasonic line of digital cameras that relates to the High Zoom class and that is the image stabilization. Mega O.I.S. saves the zoom because it allows us to use high zoom without using a tripod.

Everything about Panasonic cameras allows for creativity. They all have the ability to automatically adjust settings plus handle the inevitable shake, so we can focus on being a creative digital photographer. With the fx550, fx580, lx3, or the fx180, plus my fav the fz35 all offer a range of adjustments for making them into artistic tools. Having the RAW format available instead of forced use of JPEG makes the Panasonics ready for making the leap into prosumer use. There is also the ability to adjust the full range of focal lengths, shutter exposure and light use. This feature makes these cameras perfect for the more experienced user.

Nothing about any of Panasonic Lumix Digital Cameras is really ugly, but some of them are large. That means that the stylish label from Panasonic is more of a code name for being small and colorful. The bigger zoom cameras make the leap from stylish to practical while the small stylish cameras offer less of the features from larger cameras and more pizzaz regarding sleek design and colorful metal and plastic bodies. Panasonic Lumix Digital Cameras have always been leading edge design wise but sometimes on the large side. These stylish Panasonic digital cameras are small and just enough for the point and shoot photographer. There are still adequate zoom rates of 4x-10x and a high 10 mega pixel, depending on the model from the fx180, fp8, fx150, fx65, fx550, zr1, fx580, and the zx1. All of these are good looking and good shooting cameras.

Casual shooters looking for a small package will go even less than the Advanced Stylish models to simply Stylish. Losing some zoom ability and some features but getting much smaller form factors and keeping the mega o.i.s. and enough of the photographers key features for making good shots, but not having all the ability to manually set functions for complete control. The emphasis from Panasonic here is on Lumix digital cameras that are easy to take along for the trip, not make great photos with.
